It won’t surprise anyone to hear that 2020 was not a good year for airports. Business was way down, but we’re happy to report that things are looking up in Springfield! Let’s begin with a new service announcement!
Allegiant has just announced new service between Springfield and Houston Hobby Airport (HOU). The low-cost airline caters to vacation travelers and will run the service twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, beginning May 28. Introductory one-way fares start at $59, so head on over to www.allegiant.com.
But wait, we’ve got good news in spades!
On March 4 United Airlines will resume service between Springfield and Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH). The airline suspended Springfield service to IAH last May due to the drop off in business caused by the pandemic. Service between Springfield and IAH will be seven days a week, with one daily roundtrip.
Wait, wait, we know — it seems odd to have service to the same city on two different airlines. Here’s why it’s a good deal for Springfield customers: the two services serve two distinct kinds of customers …
The United service to Houston Intercontinental is aimed at business customers, plus vacation travelers looking to take connecting United flights to places like Orlando, Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Miami, Sarasota, Ft. Myers, and don’t forget the international destinations of Cancun, Cozumel and Los Cabos!
The Allegiant service to Houston Hobby Airport is aimed at budget conscious travelers looking to vacation in the Southeast Texas region. You could also use the service to start a vacation cruise: fly from Springfield to Houston Hobby, then jump on-board your cruise ship!
All this good news is a reflection of improvements being made to control the pandemic, but we know you’re probably not ready to venture forth into the travel world just yet. Please know that when you are ready, we’re here to welcome you back.
