Don't Lose It!

Feb 10 2020

With everything to keep track of while traveling, like luggage, tickets and possibly companions, it’s easy to lose something at a security checkpoint. According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the following items are the most commonly misplaced at security checkpoints:

1. Eyeglasses. Prescription, reading, sunglass – you name it, they’re all at the top of the list. To avoid this, keep non-essential glasses in a carrying case in your carry-on.

2. Phone. One of the most important parts of your life is also one of the most apt to be left behind! Be sure to check for it before leaving the checkpoint.

3. Belts. Rather than placing a belt directly on the conveyor belt, try wrapping it in a circle and placing it in the same bowl with your phone, keys, etc.

4. Speaking of which, keys are also likely to be missed. You can place them in your carry-on bag for scanning (same thing with your wallet).

5. Jewelry. Your safest bet is to pack jewelry in a carry-on bag, then remove it once past security.

6. Outerwear. If possible, consider packing your coat into checked luggage and removing it at the destination baggage claim.

7. Laptops. Be sure to have a business or identification card attached to your computer and if your computer bag feels light, stop and check for your laptop before leaving the area.

The experts at the Springfield Airport say the best way to avoid losing items is to build extra time into your schedule. The primary reason these items are forgotten is because people are rushing to catch a flight. No need to rush! Arrive three hours early, take your time getting through security, then relax and kick back in the gate area, where you’ll find plenty of charging stations, workstations, and free Wi-Fi!
