Road Work

Mar 25 2025

Heads up if you drive to our airport on Interstate 44 — there's major road construction coming up that could slow down your drive to the airport.

It's worth mentioning because some folk (you know who you are) have the habit of arriving at the airport at the last possible moment. If you get slowed down by road construction, you could end-up missing your flight.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says the project will, among other things, widen the interstate to six lanes between Missouri Route 13 (Kansas Expressway) and U.S. Route 65 in Springfield. The exit at Route 13 and I-44 is used by many to access the airport via Kearney Street.

I-44 bridge construction at National, Grant, and Broadway avenues may cause traffic disruptions on Springfield city streets

Bottom line: if I-44 is part of your normal route to the airport, consider using alternate routes. You might want to avoid the interstate, and some north side city streets; allow extra time for your trip to the airport.

Keep tabs on the project! MoDOT has lots of good information on its website: https://www.modot.org/projects/interstate-44-corridor-upgrades-greene-county
